Emilia

“I will be hanged if some eternal villain, some busy and insulating rogue, some cogging, cozening slave, to get some office, have not devised this slander. I will be hanged else.

Othello has just finished calling Desdemona names. Desdemona is asking Emilia and Iago if she is as she says what Othello called her; whore. While Emilia and Iago are telling Desdemona that she is a pure woman and such Emilia is talking to her as she is referring to Iago indirectly. Emilia swears on her life that an evil busybody, a lying jerk made the rumor that Desdemona is with other men. (

“Yes, a dozen, and as many to th' vantage as would store the world they played for. But I do think it is their husbands' faults if wives do fall.”

 Desdemona asks Emilia if women cheat on their husbands since lately since Othello has been calling Desdemona names that do not even pertain to her. Emilia answers her that women do cheat on their husbands, about twelve or as many women there are in the world. She also states that it is the husband’s fault that the women cheat.
