Othello
Act II Quotes
Iago Quotes
“Reputation is an idle and most
false imposition…”
Iago conveys that reputation is a false and useless
quality that others put on one. Reputation doesn’t exist and that it is in
one’s mind. It is just there to be named as a quality humans have. If one knows
or thinks one has reputation then one may lose it when they do something they
think is thought unnatural or unbelievable (the bad kind).
“Our general’s wife is now the
general.”
Iago tells Cassio that Othello’s wife (Desdemona) has
lots of influence on Othello. Othello would do anything for Desdemona. Othello
would even give Cassio his job as lieutenant back.
