Act III Quotes
Emilia Quotes
“’Tis not a year or two shows us a man. They are all but
stomach, and we all but food, to eat hungerly, and when they are full, they
blech us.”
Emilia
explains to Desdemona that in a relationship especially marriage it takes a
year or two to reveal a man. Men are like stomachs and they, women are like
food. When men need them they eat women, up hungrily. When men do not need the
women they vomit them.
“But jealous souls will not be answered so, they are not ever
jealous for the cause, but jealous for they’re jealous. It is a monster begot
upon itself, born on itself.”
Emilia explains Othello’s jealousy to Desdemona. Desdemona suggests Othello
is angry for political reasons and not that he is jealous because she never
gave him a reason. Emilia answers that jealous people like Othello do not think
like that. They are jealous for no particular reason. Jealousy is like a
monster keeps growing out of nothing.
